Our Journey

At Fullarton Distilleries, we believe that great spirits begin long before the first bottle is filled. They begin with intent, with rigor, and with a deep respect for both tradition and innovation. What started as a family-run distillery in the lush green belt of Candepar, Goa, quickly evolved into one of India’s most exciting craft spirit stories — driven by research, experimentation, and a commitment to building brands with soul.

Fullarton Distilleries’ foray into the Indian alco-beverage industry began with the launch of Woodburns Whisky in 2019. A distillery owned & operated by whisky lovers – it was no surprise that this was their first offering. An all Indian blended whisky ex-bourbon finish, & a leading peat profile – Woodburns offered consumers a product that no other producer was.

How It All Began

The result – an almost cult-like following within the country, that has not only piqued the interest of the young, contemporary, Indian whisky drinker but also a vastly more experienced consumer that may have been previously construed as “set in their ways”.

2020 brought with itself the launch of Pumori Gin. A truly small batch, craft gin – each batch of Pumori measures only 200L. Conceived in 2016 & refined over the next 3 years – Pumori was distilled in a 2 litre handloom still built from the ground up, with 56 Indian botanicals trialled in a plethora of combinations.

The original 2 litre pot-still then evolved into a 20 litre handcrafted pot-still. Further refinement, recalibration, and scaling up led to the current 200 litre pot-still that is used to produce the gin today – using 12 handpicked botanicals foraged from the bountiful landscapes of the Indian subcontinent.

Pumori champions the robust profile of Himalayan juniper – ushering in a much sought after style of gins within the already bustling Indian craft gin segment.

Pushing the boundary of rum understanding in a rather nascent market – Segredo Aldeia was launched in 2021 & is available in 2 expressions. One is a white rum – a blend of aged & unaged rums; the other is an experimental style café rum that also boasts of being India’s first café rum.

Also a blend of aged & unaged jaggery & cane sugar based rums, the café rum is influenced by the addition of single estate, arabica beans that are sourced from Chikmagalur & bespoke roasted in Goa for the rum. Segredo Aldeia is currently driving the rum revolution in India with its multiple award winning profile & captivating packaging that is inspired by its Indo-Portuguese heritage.

True to their experimental roots – Fullarton Distilleries has launched limited edition versions under their Woodburns Whisky & Pumori Gin banners.

Launched in early 2022, Pumori Ascent was Fullarton Distilleries’ first limited edition launch & also India’s first barrel aged gin. The spirit was created by ageing Pumori Gin in Ex-whisky, oak barrels.

Drawing parallels between the scaling of a mountain & barrel maturation – both transformative with a life changing light at the end, this limited edition of Pumori has undergone an ascension of its own to evolve into an elevated spirit.

Symbolising the gruelling yet enlightening act of ascension; negotiating with nature, body, and spirit; endured by those who seek the summit and all it has to offer – Pumori Ascent is a small batch, barrel aged gin inspired by the peaks.

The 2nd half of the same year was marked with Woodburns: A Tale of Oak – A single malt that sees no additives, is non chill filtered, & comes with an ex bourbon cask finish – a distinctive special edition befitting the largest whisky consuming nation in the world.

Woodburns: A Tale of Oak is a rare, all Indian spirit crafted with the forethought & foresight deserved by the contemporary Indian whisky drinker.

In December, 2023, Fullarton Distilleries expanded their line of Indian craft gins under the Pumori brand with the launch of Pumori Pink gin.
The coasts & the mountains, for all their distance & differences, will always share the sun & the sky.

Distilled with all the original botanicals used to create Pumori small batch gin along with strawberries, mulberries, blueberries, & raspberries handpicked from the Northern valleys of the subcontinent – Pumori Pink Gin is our way of holding onto the sunrises & sunsets of the mountains – distilled & bottled by the coast – to cherish everywhere in between.

As of 2025, our domestics brands – Woodburns, Pumori, Segredo Aldeia, along with Kosha and Arton’s Reserve – have been acquired by Allied Blenders and Distillers (ABD).
